Recent restoration of the historic
Kinderhook station provides carefree condominium living
right in the Village of Kinderhook; less than five
minute walk to the village square. The “Great Room” with
12ft ceiling provides living/dining, open kitchen, and a
charming alcove with small gas fireplace. Two
light-filled bedrooms, two full baths and adequate
closet and storage space throughout.
This is a really special home created from the 1880
train station in the historic village of Kinderhook. It
is on a side street of period houses, adjacent to the
park. It has just the right amenities for today's
living. Transforming the station to residential use, the
developer took great pains to restore, and in some cases
to reconstruct the historic exterior. The bedrooms and
bathrooms were added to the rear in such a way as to be
almost invisible from the street, thus serving to
preserve the integrity of the original station structure
facing Albany Avenue.
The scale of the building, the traditional brackets
that support the overhang of the hip roof, and the deck
that surrounds three sides, clearly indicate the
building's former use, yet at the same time assures that
it is very much at home with the variety of residential
styles along Albany Avenue.
$150/mo condominium fee pays for exterior maintenance
including repair or upgrading of exterior of the house
(deck, siding, roof) as needed, spring and fall general
clean up, snow plowing and shoveling, lawn mowing and
tree maintenance. Such carefree existence is a rarity in
the county. There is a parking space assigned to this
property.
There is a small building at the rear of the condominium
property with an 10' x 12' storage room storage provided
for each unit.
All utilities and electrical systems were new when
installed in 2000, and the new poured concrete
foundation provides a full size and dry 4'-6" high crawl
space with space for the furnace, ductwork and hot water
heater. The house includes central air conditioning,
with the condensing unit at the rear of the property.
The Village of Kinderhook is widely admired both for the
grand residences that are widely spaced along Broad
Street, and for the period homes along Albany Avenue,
once the post road to the state capitol. Albany Avenue
has the scale and the quiet ambiance of a prosperous
early 20th century village with well cared for
residences built over more than a century ago in a
number of styles.
Kinderhook Station is located two tenths of a mile
from the village square within easy, and even
pleasurable walking distance to the post office, the
library, the bank, village hall and all the other
amenities at the center
of the village.
